Ha ha! The girls are finished! I'm happy with how her hair turned out, though the dress looks a tad plasticy. I crapped out on the background again, though I like the snow flake designs!
Done with prismacolor markers!
Question, if I got prints made of these, and sold them at a reasonable price, would you buy any?
You have to be REALLY careful when using dark Prismas for skintones because of the uneven distribution of ink - it can tend to make the skin look mottled... and I think you may have been able to use a darker brown for the shadow (if one is available) - the tones right now are really close.
Little careful on the forehead - they don't quite go out so far; don't be afraid to let the hair do the work for you on where the side of the face ends and where it begins.
The fabric on the top coat (shoulder wrap part) could have probably used a bit more highlighting around the top of the bunches - the highlights right now aren't on folds or anything, which is part of why you get the "plastic-y" look that you mentioned.
There's a strange break in the right side of her hair in a curl. Just a little void.
Overall the piece is very cute and I like it, though. I hope I don't sound overly critical. O_O;;
Yeah, I noticed with the darker prismacolors, that I have a tough time making it look nice and even. However, I have yet to get any good colors to shade with (the markers were a Christmas gift last year and I haven't gotten a full set). Do you reccomend any good colors to use with that shade of brown? I'm going up to the art store tomorrow actually.
I think I was trying to go too much for the "cel shaded look" for this whole series, and got too scared to make things look textured.
But no, I don't think you're being too critical at all, and I thank you very much for your insight and help! ^_^

Yeah, you end up just having to be a lot lighter and more fluid with your coloring - which only comes through repetition and practice. I can't think of the colors offhand, unfortunatley, but if I do remember I'll let you know... I don't exactly have my Prismas laying in front of me to be able to tell you (let alone can I tell exactly which brown that is, but I digress). Bring a color swatch with you if you're unsure and some paper to test them on against the color you already.
Textured is one thing, folds in fabric are another completely. Be careful with that.
I hope it really is helping and I don't just come off like some old crow.
